Last weekend, we took another trip to visit my dad. This time, we decided to do a bit of boondocking along the way, adding a little adventure to our journey.

Since Friday was a holiday, I had the day off, and when I heard from my son, Jon, that he and Kristen would be at their boat, I suggested a lunch date. On our way to the marina, we made a stop at the beach in Pass Christian so Shane could fly the drone and capture some beach footage for our next YouTube video.
We arrived at the marina ahead of the kids, only to be met by a security guard who informed us that RV parking wasn’t allowed. We explained that we were waiting for my son, who is a tenant, and would be leaving as soon as he arrived. While we waited, Shane flew the drone and wandered around taking pictures—only to find a sign that clearly stated “No RVs Allowed” in the parking lot. Oops!
Once Jon and Kristen arrived, we packed them and Eli into Serenity and headed to Shaggy’s for lunch. If you ever find yourself there and love crab, do yourself a favor and try the She-Crab Soup—I can never get enough of it! 😊 We had a wonderful meal before returning them to the marina and continuing our journey into Louisiana.

Using the iOverlander app, I found a great overnight spot at the Atchafalaya Safety and Rest Area off I-10, making it our planned boondocking destination. We arrived around 4 p.m. and parked in the designated RV area. Eager to explore, we walked down to the boat ramp and ventured partway down an unfinished hiking trail, deciding to return later before sunset to fly the drone.
As the sun dipped lower, we captured some beautiful footage and then returned to Serenity, where I cooked dinner. It was a peaceful evening—until bedtime. Unfortunately, a large diesel pusher pulled up next to us, forcing us to close our windows due to the strong generator fumes. Thankfully, the night wasn’t too warm, and we managed just fine with only the fan plugged into our Bluetti.
Overall, it was an incredible trip. Shane and I love being in Serenity, and we can’t wait to go full-time.
Only seven more days until retirement—we’re almost there!
